Experiences teaching at my job
Where I work there are many chances that I have the opportunity to teach the children valuable things that will help them later on in their life. I was working with the older children at the center and some of them were wanting me to read stories to them so I read several different stories to them. When they started trying me to read the stories for the umpteenth time I asked one of them to try to read me the story. They started out reading the story and they were having problems trying to read so I tried helping them sound out the words as they went along with the story. They could give me the general idea of the story but they could not work out the sounds that goes with each word. I began teaching the sounds that can go with each letter starting with A, B and C. They started sounding out the sounds of the words with As, Bs and Cs. Some of the children were trying to take me home with them to teach them how to read. The children had such a good experience trying to learn to read they did not want to leave while I was there trying to teach them to read. That is why I feel that what I taught them will help them with both their foundations when they begin actually reading on their own and they were authentically learning the information because they are still trying to sound out the words and ask me what sounds various letters make so they can try to sound out other words.
